WHAT WE DO

JDS Holdings is an umbrella term used to identify the business operations of Doug Smith. Based in Houston, Texas, we primarily invest in real estate and alternative assetes. We occasionally have Job Openings.

Real estate investments are typically originated from Hawthorne Capital. This is a private equity firm that couples Doug’s capital with that of other investors to purchase, subdivide and sell large rural tracts of land. From that website, you can view projects, inquire about investing, meet some of our team members, and more. We brand ourselves as Liberation Ranches when selling ranchettes.

ABOUT DOUG SMITH, FOUNDER AND OWNER

Doug brings more than two decades of leadership and real estate experience to JDS Holdings. He has served as a founder, owner, CEO, operator, and investor of various companies and has overseen the purchase and sale of over 100 houses and over 5,000 acres of rural land. He currently serves as CEO of Hawthorne Capital. Prior to that, he founded and led a pioneering real estate technology company, ultimately guiding it to a successful exit. Doug was named to the HBJ 40 Under 40 list, and his companies have regularly appeared on the lists of Inc. 5,000 Fastest Growing Companies and HBJ Best Places to Work.

Doug graduated from the business and honors colleges at Texas Tech University as the top graduate out of over 500 students. He also learned Spanish after spending a year living in Spain and Chile. To give back, he invests in veteran-owned businesses, mentors local entrepreneurs and grants scholarships to graduating high school seniors.
